Brody’s achieving well…
As some of you know, we have recently started training for a new type of doggy event – Heel work to music. It started with a bit of an obsession with tricks (which Brody excells at), and lead to some training with Michelle and Jan Corles out at Ardmore on a Thursday night.

So we now have our first routine finished (have a look at the video), and our first competition this weekend….. I’m nervous!!!
We also had an obedience competition this weekend, Brody has been having some issues with attention in the ring for straight heelwork. And it was great – his heelwork was awesome! only 1/2 a point off for a lag at the start. If he didnt break his sit stay then we would have won!! We ended up third, which was wicked… and the prizes were actually pretty good (a cool lead, stainless steel feeding bowl, treats and a voucher!).
As I was randomly searching some doggie websites, I found that somehow (no idea how they got it!) a picture of Brody and I is posted on the National Dog Training association webpage about HWTM! Pretty cool!!!
Brody’s Photoshoot
A few weeks age Brody was lucky enough to be asked to be a part of a photoshoot, for some documents and certification for the national Canine Good Citizen certification. Rachel at our club (NSDTC) is on the CGC committee, and she selected dogs from our club to be photographed by a club member, Matilda.

Lots going on….
I know I havent updated this in AGES…. There has been so much going on, and I have been so busy!!! No excuse at all, I know.
Basically heres whats been going on:
- New Years with Matt and Friends in Gisbourne
- Back to Glenfield College for the second year of Teaching
- Matt and I breaking up
- Moving out of the flat.. currently looking for a new dog friendly flat for me, Max and Brody on the North Shore!
- Doing lots – playing basketball, coaching school and rep basketball, and all the dog stuff (Obedience, instructing, heelwork to music, agility.
I will write a proper post with some recent pics soon!!
Agility Competitions
This weekend Brody and I had two days of agility competitions.
The first one was on my birthday (Saturday the 29th November) at our own club – NSDTC. It was a ribbon trial which basically means its not as important at a Championship show.
Its only our third competition, and unfortunately it didnt go well… Brody is having some issues in focusing on me in the course, which means that he is prone to running off out of the course and saying hi to some dogs watching. Also he has trouble when we have to do a tyre of jump that looks different to anything that we have done in class, he literally dosent see it.
Apart from the two disqualifications for Brody, it was a fun day, watching all the other club dogs competing to various success.
On the Sunday we went out to Kumeu for the Norwest Agility RT, to attempt Starters and Elementary again. The day started out pretty average – both Brody and I were tired from the day before, and also both extremely itchy from hayfever!
Both starters and elementary were even worse than the saturday, with Brody running out of the ring for both events, and basically being a little buggar and not listening!
Some of the other club dogs had a but more success that Brody, which was fun to see.
So a fun weekend, but very tiring! Brody and I both needed a huge nana nap after the Sunday competition. Looking forward to next year when we can get into the agility comps properally, and hopefully not be disqualified!! Aiming for a clear round

Mountain biking
Last weekend Brody and I went on a little adventure to Woodhill mountainbike park.
Although I have been mountain biking a few times here, this is the first time Brody has come also. We went with some friends from dog training: Sabina with Amy (Australian Shephard), and Suzanne with Jack (Labrador).
We all packed ourselves into my car, and headed out early Sunday morning. The dogs were all great, Brody was a little bit flighty… but managed to behave himself. It was great to see him roaming around the forest, he looked like a wolf! The only problem was at the end when he lost sight of us as we were speeding down the hill, and headed back up the track. I had to ride back up to find him.
A great day, and some very tired dogs (and people) at the end!
